Community Connection for March 2, 2023

Things to celebrate…

Here in Oakes, we have a truly exceptional Chamber of Commerce. Today, we wanted to take a minute to celebrate the heck out of this incredible group. There are few other towns around us that can boast such a strong, vibrant Chamber. Kausha Magill has been nothing short of remarkable as our director; what she can accomplish in part-time hours runs circles around most of us! Then, the Chamber Board is a pretty great group, too! The 2023 board members are Keri Schall, Cari Haugen, Jonda Praska, Dustin Maier, Alisha Maier, Nicole Cline, Heather Roney, and Sarah Halmrast. This group will roll up its sleeves and dive in to make great things happen. If you see one of these fine folks around, give them a high five! We appreciate you all so much!

News to know…

Speaking of the Chamber, starting on March 1, the Chamber office will be located at Growing Small Towns. The hours will not change nor will the incredible work they do. We are looking forward to hosting more events in the space and collaborating with others to bring new and interesting ideas to life. Change is always hard, but we’re all looking forward to seeing how we can work together to continue to make Oakes the best place to live, work, and play!

Ideas to spread…

In a town like Oakes that doesn’t have obvious landmarks or other “tourist” destinations, the idea of tourism (outside of hunting/fishing) can seem kind of silly to even discuss. But? We believe the best source of visitors is happy residents. When people are happy to call their community home, they loudly and proudly invite their friends, family, and everyone they meet to visit! When was the last time you invited someone to visit Oakes? There really are so many fun things to do in our small town, despite how it might feel at times. Take a look at the upcoming events and choose one to invite people to. People will visit; we just need to give them a reason to.
