Things to celebrate…

Let’s celebrate another wildly successful Irrigation Days weekend in Oakes! It’s always amazing to see all the groups come together to offer such a wide range of events and activities for people of all ages! We got great feedback from everyone and we appreciate everyone's efforts to make it happen!

News to know…

We know it’s unlikely that you’re learning this for the first time here, but it’s pretty amazing that our governor, Doug Burgum, is officially running for the office of the President of the United States. If you didn’t get a chance to watch his announcement event, he shared that the three things he’ll base his platform on are the economy, energy, and national security. Regarding the economy, he specifically wants to emphasize policies that favor innovation over regulation. He wants to focus on selling our own energy to our allies rather than buying it from our enemies. And finally, he wants to focus on controlling the situations at our borders and cited the addiction epidemic as a major issue being fueled by the lack of control. Whether you love him or not, he is our governor and his announcement will put North Dakota in the national spotlight.

Ideas to spread...

Nearly all of us have lost someone we love and we all care about someone who’s also struggling with grief. In a recent blog post, we caught the notion of “grief groceries” and thought it was a great idea to share. Often, when we want to support or help a loved one with grief, we ask the question, “How can I help?” It’s a generous and kind thing to ask but this question creates a big choice for people who are grieving; instead of asking them to tell you how to help them, just help. Buy them groceries. Get their car washed. Hire cleaning help. Whatever you want to offer, just do it instead of asking the person struggling to answer this challenging question. It simply serves as another reminder to all of us to look out for each other. That’s what makes our community so great.
