Things to celebrate…

School’s back in session! It’s always sad when summer comes to an end, but it’s also a fun time to get back into the swing of the school year and rally around all the activities the students provide! Be sure to check the Oakes Public School calendar for upcoming football and volleyball games, along with other concerts and extracurricular activities. We wish all the staff and faculty at OPS and all the students a very successful school year!

News to know…

Mark your calendars for the 2nd annual wine walk here in Oakes! It runs from 2 - 7 pm on Saturday, September 23, on the weekend of the longstanding SVACA show in Ft. Ransom. Tickets are $27 and that ticket buys you 2 wines and paired food at 11 local businesses. Enjoy an afternoon and evening out touring our great town! Buses will be available again to ensure safe transportation around the stops. Check out the Chamber’s Facebook page for more information!

Ideas to spread…

“Let them.” Two little words might seem inconsequential, but when you hear how they’re used, it could be a game-changer, especially if you suffer from a bit of a people-pleasing tendency. The next time you find yourself worried or anxiety-ridden about how someone might react to something you’re planning to say or do, you can use this to remind yourself that you’re not in control of the response of other people. If you tell yourself that you’re worried the other person is going to get mad, simply remind yourself to let them. Let them respond how they will. Let them feel whatever they need. No amount of perfect planning will ensure the exact outcome you want in another human. This little phrase can remind you to focus on what you can control and let them do what they’re going to do. Be thoughtful and mindful about your approach and let go of the need to control the outcome in them.
