Community Connections for September 21, 2023

Things to celebrate…

This past weekend, the 2023 BIO Girls created 20 birthday party kits to make available to anyone who needs them at the Oakes Mental Health Coalition food pantry located in the front entryway of Growing Small Towns. The kits include everything needed to bake a birthday cake, candles, balloons, decor, confetti, a tablecloth, napkins, plates, and a handwritten birthday card. Not only do we want to celebrate the spirit of giving shown by these 18 girls, but we also want to celebrate the incredible success of this 24/7 no-questions-asked food pantry. Food literally flies off the shelves; people need it and are accessing it. We want to thank you all for dropping off food/toiletry donations and we want to remind you that we can only accept food items that are unopened, unexpired, and shelf stable. Thank you for making it easy for anyone in our community to get the support they need just when they need it.

News to know…

On Tuesday, September 26 at 10 am, Growing Small Towns is hosting a Zoom webinar with Grady Borth, state energy coordinator for the ND Rural Development office, as he shares an overview of the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) offered through the USDA. Learn how local businesses and ag producers can access funding to support energy efficiency upgrades or the installation of renewable energy sources.

If you have a project you think might qualify, don't miss this opportunity to get all your questions answered. The event is free and no RSVP is required.

Ideas to spread…

When we really want something to happen, it can be hard to fight the urge to try and bend the will of the universe towards that goal. There always has to be a balance between the hard-charging process of striving for a goal and leaving room for the magic of the unexpected to unfold. Try to stay focused on what you’re learning as you go rather than on whether you land exactly where you set out. Release and surrender the outcome; maybe you’ll end up in a better place than you ever could have imagined.
