Transform people’s lives. NDSU Extension empowers North Dakotans to improve their lives and communities through science-based education. Lead dynamic family and community wellness Extension programs in Dickey County, North Dakota.
- Develop, plan, deliver, facilitate, and evaluate successful, research-based educational programs in the areas of healthy aging, leadership and civic engagement, parent and family education, and food, nutrition and health that result in positive community impacts. Listen to clientele, build networks to assess locals needs and collaborate with communities of people.
- Reach youth and adult audiences. Be a voice in mass and social media outreach.
- Share leadership of Dickey County 4-H program including the development of 4-H volunteers.
- Willing and able to travel and adjust to a flexible schedule (i.e., participate in evening and weekend programs).

Location:
In the heart of pheasant country near the South Dakota border is the flourishing community of Ellendale, North Dakota. Ellendale is the Dickey County seat with a population of 1,125 residents. The city is positioned at the junction of US Hwy 281 and Hwy 11, resulting in an easy commute to two larger cities of Jamestown, ND and Aberdeen, SD. Ellendale’s dynamic attitude and family orientation is evidenced by a modernized K-12 public school system and a growing business community with two medical clinics, a dental clinic, three hotels and two retirement home. In addition, Ellendale boasts a modern swimming pool and park facilities, an ambulance service, police department and volunteer Fire Department, historical society, public library, and museum. Nearby, hunting and fishing opportunities abound to suit the outdoor enthusiast.
Work Schedule:
- Monday through Friday
- 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Some evening and weekend work required
Advertised Salary:
Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in human development, family and consumer sciences, education, health and nutrition, gerontology or a related field, OR a bachelor’s degree with work experience related to the position or a related master’s degree.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders.
- Basic computer skills and ability to use Microsoft office programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with individuals, groups and through mass media.
- Ability to conduct oneself professionally, be self-directed in the work environment and work flexible and extended hours.
- Ability to use technology for communication, information finding, program delivery, and reporting.
- Familiarity with various ethnic and socioeconomic audiences, an interest and ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in youth/human development, family and consumer sciences, education, gerontology, health and nutrition, or a closely related field.
- Experience recruiting and managing volunteers.
- Experience in designing and delivering educational programs.
- Recent Extension work experience.
- Working knowledge of and experience with 4-H and/or other youth programs.
- Experience with problem solving and conflict management.
